BIG 5 and Politics: online survey dataset on FFM (BFAS-based) personality traits, political orientation, and voting in Georgia

This repository contains survey data and supporting materials related to personality traits, political orientation, political attitudes, demographics, and response-quality assessment collected in Georgia during 2024. The dataset was compiled to support research in political psychology, personality psychology, psychometrics, survey methodology, and related social science fields, particularly in contexts where validated Georgian-language instruments and openly accessible datasets remain limited. The repository includes more than 300 variables covering psychological traits, political orientation, political preferences, voting-related attitudes, demographic characteristics, and multiple response-quality indicators. Personality-related variables are primarily based on the Big Five Aspects Scales (BFAS) and additional Openness-related items derived from the International Personality Item Pool (IPIP/IPIP-NEO). Political orientation items were developed and adapted for the Georgian cultural and sociopolitical context. Data collection was conducted through online surveys administered using Google Forms. Respondents were recruited primarily via Meta advertisements. The repository contains data from pilot, pre-final, and final collection stages conducted during 2024. The final-stage dataset includes 336 respondents, while the complete repository contains 449 completed responses across all stages. Files are provided in bilingual format (Georgian and English). In addition to the main datasets, the repository contains translation and adaptation materials, forward and back translations, expert evaluations, alternative item formulations tested during piloting, and documentation related to questionnaire development and harmonization procedures. The repository includes both raw and harmonized datasets. Harmonization procedures involved reverse-scoring, recoding, and linear transformations where necessary to align pilot-stage responses with the final questionnaire format. Response-quality materials include indicators related to response time, straightlining, multivariate outlier detection, validity checks, and other quality-control metrics. Personally identifiable information was removed prior to publication. Additional anonymization procedures were applied to smaller pilot datasets to reduce re-identification risk, including removal or aggregation of selected variables. The dataset may be useful for: research on personality and political attitudes, psychometric and questionnaire development, exploratory and preregistration studies, online survey methodology research, teaching statistics and social science methods, secondary analyses and scale construction in resource-limited contexts. The sample was recruited through online social media advertising and has limitations regarding population representativeness. However, despite not being based on formal probability sampling, it may provide broader population coverage than more typical convenience samples.
