Exploring Traditional and Agile Project Controls for Enhancing AEC Project Performance: The Mediating Role of Cost of Quality

Description

The dataset comprises 343 valid responses collected from professionals involved in project delivery, design engineering, project controls, BIM, planning, commercial management, contracts management, financial control, and senior leadership roles. The sample includes respondents ranging from Junior Design Engineers to Project Directors, thereby capturing perspectives from operational, tactical, and strategic levels of project management. Respondents reported varying levels of professional experience, ranging from approximately 1 to 30 years, with exposure to both European and Indian projects. In addition, participants indicated the number of completed projects and their international project experience, providing a diverse and professionally experienced sample for examining project control practices and project performance outcomes. The survey instrument measured four key constructs relevant to project control and performance. Traditional Project Controls (TPC) was measured using six indicators (TPC_2 to TPC_7), Agile Scrum Project Controls (ASPC) was measured using five indicators (APC_4 to APC_8), Cost of Quality (COQ) was measured using five indicators (COQ_2 to COQ_6), and Project Performance (PP) was measured using five indicators (PP_3 to PP_7). All construct items were assessed using a seven-point Likert-type scale, where higher scores indicated stronger agreement with the respective statement. The final dataset contains 21 measurement items distributed across the four latent constructs, together with respondent demographic and professional profile variables including designation, years of experience, number of completed projects, exposure to European projects, and exposure to Indian projects. The respondent pool reflects a broad representation of project stakeholders. Professional categories represented in the sample include Junior Design Engineers, Design Engineers, Project Engineers, Senior Design Engineers, Senior Design Managers, BIM Engineers, BIM Managers, CAD Technicians, Senior CAD Technicians, Senior and Principal Document Controllers, Senior Consultants, Planning Engineers, Planners, Billing Engineers, Planning Managers, Financial Controllers, Project Controllers, Contracts Managers, Project Controls Specialists, Commercial Managers, Project Managers, Heads of Department, and Project Directors. This diversity improves the comprehensiveness of the dataset and reduces the risk of insights being concentrated within a single functional discipline. The dataset was specifically developed to evaluate the relationships between project control approaches and project outcomes, while assessing the mediating role of Cost of Quality. The inclusion of respondents with substantial domestic and international project experience enhances the relevance of the findings for organizations operating in complex engineering, infrastructure, and multidisciplinary project environments.
