Forces and grain-grain contacts in bidisperse beds sheared by viscous fluids_I (pre_CFDEM_Scripts_media)
Description
These files include both pre-setup and post-setup CFDEM simulations at the grain scale, using Computational Fluid Dynamics-Discrete Element Method (CFD-DEM). With this approach, we tracked the positions, velocities, forces, and solid contacts experienced by each grain, enabling us to analyze the distribution of forces caused either directly by the fluid or through solid-solid contacts within the bed. We also explored the relationship between force propagation and the reorganization of grains in beds sheared by viscous flow. Additionally, we provide MATLAB scripts to: i) extract data from CFDEM results files, ii) reorganize bed properties and contact force data by time and by particle, and iii) compute variables and generate plots.
Files
Steps to reproduce
These files provide everything needed to set up, run, and compute CFDEM simulations, as well as generate particle properties and contact force data. Additionally, a MATLAB script is included for processing the data and plotting the results. i) Folder 01_pre_CFDEM contains the CFDEM setup files for all case studied. To run a simulation, navigate to this folder, select any case (e.g., 3rpm_SM, 4rpm_SM), and execute the command ./Allrun from the terminal. ii) Folder 02_Script&data includes three subfolders: Dat: Contains some result data files used to plot the figures, organized by case study. Scripts: Contains the MATLAB scripts used to compute and plot the figures shown in the paper. Process_Scripts: Includes scripts for processing the simulation data files from CFDEM, creating .mat files, and computing the results for the figures presented in the article. iii) Folder Media contains the figures and videos related to the simulations. 1.- Download the .mat data files and .m files script, ensuring that the directory paths are correctly set. 2.- Download the .mat data files from Forces grain-grain contacts bidisperse beds sheared by viscous fluids_II (Data_6rpm) 3.- To process results and plot figures as presented in the article for any case study, run the appropriate .m files located in the /Script_compute_results_figs folder, ensuring that the directory paths are correctly set. 4.- To create .mat files from the CFDEM result data files, execute the .m files in the /Script_data_processing_DEM folder, ensuring that the directory paths are correctly set.
