Description

The fatigue data were obtained using a uniaxial electrodynamic shaker. A total of 194 DC01 steel specimens were tested using different initial stress levels and different stress increments. For all tests, the fatigue strength at the prescribed life Nf=10^6 cycles was defined as a 2% decrease in the resonance frequency relative to the initial resonance frequency. The “failure” therefore refers to meeting the criterion of a 2% decrease in the resonance frequency but does not necessarily imply complete failure of the specimen. The dataset includes raw data from the staircase sequences, graphs of the staircase sequences, and raw data for plotting the S-N curve.

Steps to reproduce

1) Resonance identification by sine sweep under strain control. A low-level sine sweep is first performed to identify the resonant frequency of the specimen while controlling the strain amplitude. This preliminary step is conducted at a sufficiently low strain level to avoid introducing significant fatigue damage. 2) SRTD fatigue test at resonance. The specimen is then excited using the Sine Resonance Tracking and Dwell (SRTD) method. The excitation frequency is continuously adjusted to track the specimen resonance, while the prescribed strain/stress amplitude is maintained. The test is continued until either specimen failure occurs or the prescribed runout life Nf is reached. Staircase update for the next specimen. The loading level applied to the next specimen is determined from the outcome of the previous test. If the specimen fails before Nf, the loading amplitude is decreased by one staircase increment. If the specimen survives up to Nf, the loading amplitude is increased by one staircase increment. The procedure is repeated sequentially for all specimens.
