Description

Abstract: Background: Demographic aging represents a critical public health challenge. In the Peruvian context, the family structure stands as the primary social support system, where intrafamily support directly influences self-management of limitations, prevention of neglect, and the perceived well-being of the older adult population. Objective: To determine the predictive capacity of family support on the quality of life of older adults in East Lima, 2026. Methods: A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, predictive study was conducted with 450 older adults residing in East Lima, selected through non-probability convenience sampling. The Family APGAR and WHOQOL-BREF instruments were administered. Data were processed using SPSS; Spearman’s Rho was used to evaluate associations, and multiple linear regression was applied to determine predictive capacity. Results: A significant positive correlation was observed between family support and quality of life (rho = 0.447; p < 0.001). Family support explained 23.8% of the variance in quality of life (R2 = 0.238). Furthermore, the environmental, psychological, and physical domains significantly predicted family support, accounting for R2 = 0.24. Conclusion: Family support has a significant relationship with the quality of life of older adults in East Lima and constitutes a relevant component in promoting healthy aging.
