Raw near-infrared analytical data of solid-state fermentation of complete feeds with a six-strain composite inoculant
Description
Raw values of a near-infrared (NIR) compositional analysis of two commercial complete feeds (growing-finishing pig feed and laying-hen feed) before and after 5 d of anaerobic solid-state fermentation with a six-strain composite inoculant (Bacillus sp. LB3, Bacillus velezensis LB4, Saccharomyces cerevisiae LJJM01/LJJM05, Lacticaseibacillus paracasei W33, Lentilactobacillus buchneri R5-7; CGMCC 32372-32377). Each substrate comprises one uninoculated control sample and three independent fermentation replicates. The dataset contains the measured values (protein fractions, fibre fractions, carbohydrates, fat, ash, minerals, fatty acid profile, total digestible nutrients, energy values and pH) together with the eight original laboratory reports issued by Wulanchabu Yima Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Technology Co., Ltd. (Dairy One affiliate network). Moisture and dry matter are reported on an as-sampled basis and all other items on a dry-matter basis.

Substrates. Commercial complete feed for growing-finishing pigs and commercial complete feed for laying hens were collected in May 2024 from a formula-feed manufacturer in Xichang, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan, China, and used as received without further milling. Inoculant. Bacillus sp. LB3 and Bacillus velezensis LB4, Saccharomyces cerevisiae LJJM01 and LJJM05, and Lacticaseibacillus paracasei W33 and Lentilactobacillus buchneri R5-7 (CGMCC 32372-32377) were each activated from a stock slant. A single colony of each strain was transferred into its own liquid medium: yeasts into potato dextrose broth (28 C, 48 h, static), lactic acid bacteria into MRS broth (37 C, 48 h, static), and bacilli into LB broth (30 C, 24 h, 180 r/min). Each culture was adjusted with sterile saline to OD600 = 1.0 (checked against McFarland standard No. 1 for bacilli and lactic acid bacteria and No. 0.5 for yeasts), and the six cultures were mixed in equal volumes to give the composite inoculant, which was used immediately after preparation. Fermentation. The composite inoculant was added to each feed and mixed thoroughly. Sterile water was then added until the material reached 45-51% moisture, judged by squeezing a handful into a coherent ball that neither crumbled nor released free water. The wetted material was compacted into fermentation bags fitted with one-way gas valves, the bags were sealed, and fermentation was carried out at room temperature in the dark for 5 d. An uninoculated portion of each feed, wetted with the same amount of sterile water, served as the control (one commercial mixed sample, n = 1). Each fermented treatment was prepared in three independent bags (n = 3). Sampling and analysis. After 5 d the bags were opened and samples were taken. pH was measured with a pH meter. For chemical composition, one sample per bag was submitted to Wulanchabu Yima Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Technology Co., Ltd. (a member of the global Dairy One affiliate laboratory network) and analysed on a FOSS 2500 near-infrared spectrometer against the Dairy One database. The eight samples reported here are identified by the laboratory sample numbers 2024050618-2024050625. The original laboratory reports are provided as a PDF in this dataset. Data handling. All chemical values were transcribed from the original reports exactly as issued: moisture and dry matter from the as-sampled basis column, and all other items from the dry-matter basis column. The only change made was the correction of one transcription error in the dry matter of the pig-feed control (the original report gives 86.50%; see the Notes sheet of the workbook). No values were recalculated, averaged or otherwise transformed, so the workbook contains the raw replicate values as reported by the laboratory.
