Analysis of critical human failures in maritime transportation: Case study of cargo holds operational processes on bulk carriers

This dataset aims to support the study entitled “Analysis of critical human failures in maritime transportation: Case study of cargo holds operational processes on bulk carriers.” The study examines human reliability during cargo-hold preparation, washing, cleaning and drying operations on bulk carriers. The deposited files contain the structured data used to identify and evaluate performance-shaping factors and to calculate task-level human error probabilities. The data file includes: 1. The linguistic and numerical scale used for pairwise comparisons of performance-shaping factors. 2. An illustrative example of expert pairwise comparisons. 3. The hierarchy of tasks and subtasks performed before, during and after cargo-hold cleaning. 4. De-identified professional profiles of the nine participating marine experts. 5. Definitions of the nine performance-shaping factors examined in the study: fatigue, training, experience, time management, weather conditions, stress, sea condition, communication and complexity. 6. Mean expert ratings assigned to each performance-shaping factor for each operational task. 7. The complete expert pairwise-comparison judgements and corresponding mean belief scores. 8. Calculated and normalised performance-shaping-factor weights. 9. Inter-rater consistency scores for the expert pairwise comparisons. 10. Calculated Success Likelihood Index values and Human Error Probability values for the cargo-hold preparation tasks.
