Steps to reproduce
Water was extracted from the soil and plant samples using a low-temperature freeze vacuum extraction system (LI-2000) for the analysis of δD and δ¹⁸O, as this method ensures high-precision extraction . All samples were thawed at 4°C commencing one week prior to analysis to minimize evaporation losses. The δ¹⁸O and δD values for the water samples were determined at the Qilian Mountain Ecological Research Center in Gansu Province using laser absorption spectroscopy (TIWA-45EP liquid water isotope analyzer, Los Gatos Research, USA). The results were referenced against the Vienna Standard Mean Ocean Water. The measurement precisions for δ¹⁸O and δD was better than 0.06‰ and 0.2‰, respectively.
