Petrology, mineralogy and geochemistry of Martian meteorite Northwest Africa (NWA) 13460: Implications for its magmatic evolution
Description
This dataset contains supplementary mineral-chemical data for the NWA 13460 Martian meteorite and accompanies the study entitled “Petrology, mineralogy, and geochemistry of the Martian meteorite Northwest Africa (NWA) 13460: Implications for its magmatic evolution.” The dataset consists of eight Microsoft Excel files. Tables S1–S6 contain raw electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) data for pyroxene, plagioclase, olivine, ilmenite, titanomagnetite, and merrillite, respectively. Tables S7 and S8 contain raw laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) trace-element data for pyroxene and plagioclase, respectively. Major-element concentrations obtained by EPMA are reported in weight percent (wt%), whereas trace-element concentrations obtained by LA-ICP-MS are reported in micrograms per gram (μg g⁻¹, equivalent to ppm). Each row represents an individual analytical spot. Mineral names, analytical spot identifiers, and compositional data are provided in the corresponding files. These data support the mineralogical and geochemical characterization of NWA 13460, including the identification of constituent minerals, evaluation of mineral compositional variations, and interpretation of its crystallization conditions and magmatic evolution. The dataset is provided to enable verification and reuse of the analytical results presented in the associated manuscript and to facilitate comparison with other Martian meteorites.

Two polished thin sections of the NWA 13460 Martian meteorite were prepared for petrographic and mineral-chemical analyses. Mineral phases and analytical locations were identified using optical microscopy, backscattered electron imaging, and mineral phase mapping. Major-element compositions of pyroxene, plagioclase, olivine, ilmenite, titanomagnetite, and merrillite were determined using a JEOL JXA-8230 electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA). In situ trace-element compositions of pyroxene and plagioclase were determined using a Coherent GeoLas HD laser-ablation system coupled to an Agilent 7900 inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer. Helium was used as the carrier gas, and a laser spot diameter of 32 μm was employed. NIST SRM 610 and NIST SRM 612 were used as external calibration standards, while BHVO-2G, BCR-2G, and BIR-1G reference glasses were analyzed as quality-control materials. Silicon was used as the internal standard, with SiO₂ concentrations obtained from corresponding EPMA analyses. Reference materials were analyzed after every five sample analyses to monitor instrumental stability and analytical accuracy. LA-ICP-MS data reduction was performed using ICPMSDataCal 11.8. The eight Excel files contain individual analytical-spot data. Tables S1–S6 provide raw EPMA data for pyroxene, plagioclase, olivine, ilmenite, titanomagnetite, and merrillite, respectively. Tables S7 and S8 provide raw LA-ICP-MS trace-element data for pyroxene and plagioclase, respectively.
