Linked and Harmonised Renewable Energy Licensing Dataset, Greece (1988–2026)
Description
This dataset provides a harmonised project- and licence-level compilation of renewable energy licensing records in Greece. It integrates historical administrative records, covering applications submitted between 2001 and 2009, with the national renewable energy licensing registry updated in July 2026, which includes licences issued between 1988 and 2026. The main analysis-ready table contains 5,096 records and 33 variables covering project identification, licensing status, technology, geographical location, capacity, dates and energy storage. The dataset also includes supplementary historical variables, a detailed data dictionary, technology and NUTS-2 geography crosswalks, maturity-code mappings and record-status definitions, supporting transparent, reproducible and spatial or longitudinal analysis of renewable energy development in Greece.

Steps to reproduce
1. Import the historical renewable-energy application records and the July 2026 snapshot of the Greek national renewable energy licensing registry. 2. Convert licence identifiers from both sources to text, remove surrounding whitespace and standardise dash characters. 3. Link records across the two sources using exact deterministic matching of the normalised `License_ID`. No fuzzy, probabilistic, geographical or licence-holder-name matching is applied. 4. Combine the two sources using a full outer join and assign each resulting record to one of three categories: `Matched`, `Historical_only` or `Registry_2026_only`. 5. Assign a unique synthetic identifier (`Project_Record_ID`) to every final project/licence-level record and retain the original source-row references for traceability. 6. Harmonise geographical information into `Region`, `Regional_Unit`, `Municipality`, `Installation_Site` and `NUTS2_Code` using the documented Geography Crosswalk. Harmonise renewable-energy technologies using the Technology Crosswalk and standardise historical licensing-maturity categories using the Maturity Code mapping. 7. Consolidate date and capacity variables according to the documented source-priority rules and calculate the derived variables included in the master dataset. 8. Compile the final `RES_Project_Level_Master` table together with the complementary `RES_Historical_Extended` table, Data Dictionary, technology and geography crosswalks, maturity-code mapping and record-status definitions. No statistical imputation, sampling, fuzzy matching or probabilistic linkage is required to reproduce the released dataset.
