Description

This dataset includes a total of sixteen data files for the sediment core GC02 recovered from the northwestern Pacific. One Excel file shows the depth variations of hysteresis parameters and anhysteretic remanent magnetization (ARM) intensities along the sediment core, including the coercivity (Bc), coercivity of remanence (Bcr), saturation remanence (Mrs) regarded as the saturation isothermal remanent magnetization (SIRM) here, and saturation magnetization (Ms); three Excel files contain the raw data of the isothermal remanent magnetization (IRM) acquisition curves for the representative samples; three FRC files are the raw data of the first-order reversal curve (FORC) diagrams of the representative samples, which can be opened and processed using the FORCinel software of Harrison and Feinberg (2008); and nine Gatan DigitalMicrograph Image Document files present the raw data of transmission electron microscope (TEM) images of magnetic mineral extracts for three representative samples (i.e., three files for each sample).

Steps to reproduce

Anhysteretic remanent magnetization (ARM) was imparted in a peak-alternating field (AF) of 80 mT with a controlled direct current bias field (HDC) of 0.05 mT using a 2-G Enterprises Model 755-4K superconducting magnetometer installed in a magnetically shielded space at the Paleomagnetism Laboratory, FIO, MNR. Subsequently, 55 out of these samples were selected at6-cm intervals for hysteresis measurements using a LakeShore 8604 Model vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM 8604) at the Laboratory for Marine Geology, Qingdao Marine Science and Technology Center. Specifically, hysteresis loops were made on 200 mg of naturally dried sediment between 1 T with a field step of 5 mT. The coercivity (Bc), saturation remanence (Mrs) regarded as the saturation isothermal remanent magnetization (SIRM) here, and saturation magnetization (Ms) were determined after paramagnetic slope correction, and the coercivity of remanence (Bcr) was then obtained by applying a backfield up to 80 mT.
