Effect of Mat Pilates on Blood Pressure and Heart Rate Recovery in Prehypertensive College going Students
Description
Prehypertension is considered an intermediate stage between normal blood pressure and hypertension and has become increasingly prevalent among young adults and college-going students because of sedentary lifestyle, academic stress, obesity, unhealthy dietary habits, and reduced physical activity. Individuals with prehypertension are at greater risk of developing hypertension and cardiovascular disorders in the future. Delayed heart rate recovery (HRR) is also associated with impaired autonomic function and increased cardiovascular risk. Therefore, early intervention using non-pharmacological approaches may help prevent disease progression and improve cardiovascular health. Mat Pilates, a mind-body exercise approach emphasizing breathing control, flexibility, postural alignment, and core stability, may have beneficial effects on cardiovascular parameters and autonomic regulation
