Research Data for a Systematic Review of Smart-Home Energy Management and Older Adults
Description
This dataset supports a systematic review examining the relationship between smart-home energy management and older adults’ occupant behavior. It contains a cleaned and merged bibliographic dataset derived from Web of Science and Scopus records and used as input for the VOSviewer author-keyword co-occurrence analysis. It also includes supplementary study-level tables covering the included studies, methodological classification, behavior-frame and energy-relation coding, MMAT and CASP appraisal results, figure source data, country-index calculations, and keyword normalization. Database-specific fields that were not required for the reported analyses were removed before deposit, while the bibliographic fields needed to identify the records and reproduce the analysis were retained. No article full texts, copyrighted PDFs, personal data, sensitive information, or confidential information are included.

Steps to reproduce
Bibliographic records were retrieved from Web of Science and Scopus on 1 December 2025 using the search query reported in the associated manuscript. English-language records were retained, and the subject-area exclusions specified in the manuscript were applied separately in each database. The Web of Science and Scopus exports were merged using a Python script. Duplicate records were identified and removed from the merged dataset. The remaining records were then screened manually following the PRISMA 2020 process. Screening included title and abstract assessment, further evaluation of keywords and conclusions, and full-text review. The detailed screening stages, eligibility criteria, exclusion reasons, and record counts are reported in the PRISMA flow diagram and supplementary materials. The final set of included studies was examined using the TCCM framework and appraised with the MMAT and CASP tools using design-appropriate criteria. Each study was classified by methodological category and additionally coded according to its dominant behavior representation and energy relation. The study-level classifications, appraisal results, and source data used in the analyses are provided in the supplementary materials. For the bibliometric analysis, the cleaned and merged bibliographic dataset was imported into VOSviewer. Before deposit, database-specific fields that were not required for the reported analysis were removed, while the bibliographic fields necessary to identify the records and reproduce the author-keyword analysis were retained. Author-keyword co-occurrence analysis was conducted using the full counting method with a minimum occurrence threshold of one. A thesaurus file was applied to merge equivalent terms, abbreviations, and spelling variants. The thesaurus file and the complete list of keyword adjustments are included in the supplementary materials.
