Description

This dataset contains a series of metallographic images of aluminum-based composites with composition Al10Cu reinforced with 5 wt.% B4C, produced by powder metallurgy. The samples were prepared following a standard metallographic procedure: mounting in acrylic resin, grinding with SiC papers up to #1200, and mechanical polishing with diamond pastes and OP-S suspension. The microstructure was revealed by etching with 0.5% aqueous HF solution. Observations were carried out using a Polyvar Met optical microscope at magnifications up to 500×. The dataset provides representative micrographs showing the distribution of B4C particles, microstructural features of the Al10Cu matrix, and typical defects such as pores and particle pull-outs. These images can be used for comparison in studies of Al-based composites fabricated by powder metallurgy, for microstructural analysis, and for correlation with mechanical and tribological behavior.
