Description

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly used to manage the large and fragmented body of knowledge produced across construction projects. However, research at the intersection of AI, knowledge management (KM), and construction has not been mapped in a focused manner. This study analyses 511 Scopus-indexed articles and conference papers published from 2020 to 30 July 2026. The records were screened using an adapted PRISMA 2020 process, cleaned with OpenRefine and biblioMagika®, and analysed through bibliometric performance indicators and keyword co-occurrence mapping in VOSviewer. Publication output increased sharply after 2024 and reached 193 documents in 2025, while recent papers had fewer citations because of citation lag. China led in publication volume and institutional participation, followed by the United States and the United Kingdom. Southeast University was the most productive institution, although citation impact varied across authors, institutions, and countries. The keyword network revealed six (6) connected themes covering large language models and knowledge extraction, intelligent knowledge systems, conversational AI, safety knowledge retention, knowledge creation and transfer, and machine learning with big data. Terms such as ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and GPT-4o-mini indicate a recent shift towards conversational retrieval and automated knowledge organisation. The study provides a focused view of an emerging research domain and highlights the need for empirical validation, responsible AI governance, common data standards, and wider international collaboration. The findings are limited by the use of one (1) database, English-language records, predefined search terms, citation lag, and incomplete 2026 coverage
