Description

This study investigates the efficacy of iliotibial band release using myofascial release and muscle energy technique on balance, pain, and knee range of motion in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Participants with clinically diagnosed knee osteoarthritis will receive targeted iliotibial band interventions alongside conventional physiotherapy, and outcomes will be assessed using validated measures for pain, balance, and joint mobility pre- and post-intervention. The study aims to determine whether combining myofascial release or muscle energy technique provides superior functional improvement and symptom relief compared to standard care, supporting evidence-based rehabilitation in knee osteoarthritis management.

Steps to reproduce

1.Conduct a randomized controlled trial on adults diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis fulfilling predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. 2.Randomly allocate participants into experimental (ITB myofascial release + muscle energy technique + conventional physiotherapy) and control (conventional physiotherapy only) groups. 3.Apply a standardized ITB myofascial release and muscle energy technique protocol for the experimental group, with defined session duration, frequency (e.g., 3 sessions/week), and total treatment period. 4.Provide the same dosage of conventional physiotherapy (e.g., hot pack, quadriceps strengthening, stretching, balance training) to both groups. 5.Assess pain (VAS), balance (Berg Balance Scale), and knee range of motion (goniometer) at baseline and after the intervention period using identical procedures. 6.Analyze pre–post and between‑group changes using appropriate statistical tests (e.g., normality testing, then parametric or non‑parametric comparisons).
