Substitution between Transportation Modes: The case of Russia's Blockade of Ukraine's Ports
Description
This replication package reproduces all results in “The Elasticity of Substitution between Transportation Modes: Evidence from Russia’s Blockade of Ukraine’s Ports” (Ryzhenkov and Shepotylo, 2027) and contains three components: data, scripts and outputs. The data folder holds the inputs used to build the estimation sample. The scripts folder contains code, run in the order set out in the README, that harmonises product codes, constructs the spell-level panel and pre-war maritime exposure measures, builds the port-blockade indices by inverse-distance weighting and principal component analysis, estimates the first-stage mapping from conflict intensity to relative sea-to-land freight costs, and runs the event studies, baseline difference-in-differences regressions, robustness and production-disruption checks, distance splits and sectoral estimates. The outputs folder contains every table and figure in the main text and appendices, each labelled to match its number in the paper.
