Atmospheric and oceanic data used in the Unprecedented Open-Ocean Polynya in Breid Bay, East Antarctica in Winter 2024
Description
Daily July–August 2024 values of absolute (ABS) and anomaly (ANOM) fields of sea-ice concentration (SIC) and associated atmospheric and oceanic variables averaged over the Breid Bay polynya region (16-31°E, 65-68°S). Days influenced by atmospheric river (AR) events affecting the polynya region are highlighted in bold. For each variable, the maximum daily anomaly within the polynya region is used, except for the 10-m meridional wind (V10), for which the minimum anomaly is reported. The anomalies of Ekman suction, surface latent heat flux (SLHF), surface sensible heat flux (SSHF), surface thermal radiation (STR; longwave radiation), and surface solar radiation (SSR; shortwave radiation), averaged over the Breid Bay polynya region (16-31°E, 65-68°S). For each variable, the maximum daily anomaly within the polynya region is reported.
