This paper presents the unusual engineering properties of coralline aggregates used for asphalt binder course production during the rehabilitation of Zanzibar airport (Tanzania). The geotechnical and geomechanical properties of the coralline aggregates, asphalt concrete mix design and the volumetric parameters achieved during mix design are discussed. Asphalt concrete production and the placing procedures are also discussed. Finally, the paper recommends the measures to be taken when using coralline aggregates for asphalt concrete production.
