Description

1. Vector coverages (shapefiles, 1:50,000, EPSG 25830) of the distribution of eight zonal forest types in mainland Spain. The dominant species and Habitat Type code (European Habitats Directive 92/43 EEC) are: • Fagus sylvatica (9120, 9130 and 9150) • Quercus robur and Q. pyrenaica (9230) • Q. suber (9330) • Pinus uncinata (9430) • P. nigra ssp. salzmannii (9530) • P. pinea (subset of 9540) 2. R scripts to determine patchiness using the Korcak exponent B. This is computed both for the entire range of patch sizes and for size intervals using a segmented regression approach. Such intervals are automatically detected.

Steps to reproduce

The shapefiles and the R scripts can be used independently for a wider use. The former are self-contained and comprehensive for the respective forest types. The latter will require small editions in concrete lines (e.g. working folders) according to the user needs. Before tackling any Korcak analysis, it is recommended to run the scripts with the provided coverages. For that purpose: 1. Run script ‘fragSize-1_v5_Hastings.R’ in the first place. It has its own data written in the script and will facilitate getting familiar with the analysis workflow and results. 2. Place the shapefiles in a convenient folder. 3. Edit script ‘fragSize-1_v5_HIC.R’ in the appropriate lines to include user paths consistently with step 2. 4. Run the script. 5. Edit the script as necessary to tweak the current computing and graph options (the corresponding lines are indicated by comments), or to use different coverages.
