Description

Studies 1 and 2 show that, compared with human design disclosure, disclosure of AI design significantly reduces individuals’ willingness to donate. This negative effect is driven by heightened perceptions of manipulative intent. Study 3 demonstrates that when a nonprofit organization explains that AI design is used to reduce overhead costs, such as promotional and administrative expenses, the negative effect of disclosure of AI design on donation intentions is significantly attenuated. Study 4 further reveals that organization size moderates the moderating effect of overhead cost explanations.
