NIF ATHENA Experiment
Description
The NIF ATHENA energy tuning assembly (ETA) experiment was designed to spectrally shape the NIF deuterium-tritium fusion neutron source into a thermonuclear and prompt fission neutron spectrum. This experiment is a follow on to: Quartemont, Nicholas (2021), “NIF ETA Experiment”, Mendeley Data, V3, doi: 10.17632/92n6k43nt5.3 http://dx.doi.org/10.17632/92n6k43nt5.3 (MCNP6 Directory) Contains MCNP6 model and output for the ATHENA-I validation experiment. (SCALE Directory) Contains SCALE 6.3 Beta 14 model for the ATHENA-I validation experiment. This was used to create a covariance matrix for the neutron flux unfolding with PNNL STAYSL. (ATHENA-II directory) Contains basic model of the ATHENA-II platform which has an external positioner and expandable spectrally-shaped internal volume. (STAYSL_Unfold Directory) Contains unfolded results based on the experimentally measured reactions. (Specifications Directory) Contains isotopic data for spectral shaping material/foils and ATHENA engineering drawings.
