Description

A, Skin biopsy from normal skin (periostin immunohistochemistry, original magnification ×100): Periostin expression is weak and limited in the papillary dermis. B, Skin biopsy from a patient with psoriasis (periostin immunohistochemistry, original magnification ×100). Periostin expression is present in the dermis, with moderate intensity. C, Skin biopsy from a patient with atopic dermatitis (periostin immunohistochemistry, original magnification ×100). Strong periostin expression is observed in the dermis. D, Serum periostin levels in a healthy control, psoriasis vulgaris (PsV), and atopic dermatitis (AD). All measurements were performed in triplicate for each sample (technical replicates). Periostin concentrations were significantly higher in AD and PsV compared with the healthy control (*P < 0.01). Mean values were 39.666±1.177 ng/mL in the healthy normal, 104.025±6.507 ng/mL in AD (P < 0.001) and 67.526±1.047 ng/mL in PsV (P < 0.001). Data represent mean ± SD from triplicate measurements, analyzed using a paired t-test.
