Data were collected from a two‑year field experiment (2023–2024) comparing rain‑shelter versus open‑field cultivation of forest‑grown ginseng in Liaoning, China. Disease severity was assessed at 15‑day intervals across eight dates per season using a 0–5 scale. Canopy microclimate (temperature, relative humidity, soil temperature, soil moisture) was monitored continuously with automated sensors. Growth parameters (plant height, stem diameter, leaf traits, root length, root diameter, root fresh/dry weight) were measured after three growing seasons. Chlorophyll content was determined spectrophotometrically following ethanol‑acetone extraction. All statistical analyses were performed using OriginPro 2024 and SPSS 26. Full details of all methods are described in the accompanying manuscript.
