Depression symptoms and psychological factors among university students in Bangladesh: A CES-D-oriented survey dataset

A common mental health problem among undergraduates, depression is impacted by a number of academic, social, and psychological variables. Responses to a bilingual (English and Bangla) questionnaire created in accordance with the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) framework were gathered from 918 Bangladeshi university students for this dataset. The collection contains responses to 20 CES-D-oriented depression evaluation questions, academic characteristics, psychological stress indicators, and demographic data. Contextual elements including professional uncertainty, financial stress, loneliness, sleep disruption, motivation, emotional well-being, and social contact are captured by additional variables. 889 valid replies were kept in the final dataset after data cleaning, validation, and preprocessing. Standard CES-D scoring methods were used to produce depression scores and severity designations. Research in depression prediction, computational mental health, educational analytics, explainable artificial intelligence, and psychological behavior analysis can benefit from the organized, machine learning-ready nature of the dataset. Additionally, it provides a useful tool for research on mental health in Bangladesh and other marginalized communities.
