Research project developed within the scope of the Nucleus for Science and Applied Technologies (NCTA/ UFPB/ CNPq/ Brazil) as an interinstitutional research initiative among the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB/ Brazil), the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais (PUC-Minas/ Brazil), and the Southern Federal University (SFedU/ Russian Federation).

ABSTRACT: Analysis of iconographic dimensions of popular cultural manifestations in the Brazilian Northeast based on sources from the Newspaper Library of the National Center for Folklore and Popular Culture (CNFCP), a Center linked to the National Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN-Brazil). Its objective is to facilitate the analysis of the representation of Northeastern popular culture in official documents of the Brazilian State, to promote the understanding and elucidation of national heritage actions aimed at popular cultural expressions of the Region. It will include bibliographical, documentary, historical, and statistical analyses. In terms of results, it is expected to provide a contemporary overview of the evaluated bibliographic-documentary corpus, elucidating the characteristics of the relationship between the Brazilian State and the popular cultural manifestations of the Northeast Region, which are believed to represent important elements for the Nation in historical, patrimonial, and artistic-cultural terms. The initiative can promote ethical, epistemic-philosophical, and/or social improvements essential for the establishment of equitable, democratic, and more effective public policies for the management of the Nation´s intangible cultural heritage.
