Description

This dataset contains Supplementary Table S1 for the article "Planning Sugarcane Bagasse-to-Energy Systems for Rural Access: A Multi-Dimensional Decision Framework" (R.G. Charles, B.S. Martincigh, V.O. Nyamori, M.L. Davies; Energy Nexus, Elsevier). S1 is a data-traceability workbook documenting the provenance of every quantitative value in Tables 5 and 6 and Figures 3 and 4 of the article. For each value it records the value as printed in the manuscript, its unit, the full citation of the source publication, a verbatim quotation of the sentence, table cell or figure location in which the value appears together with its page number, any unit conversion or other data handling applied, and a verification status. The workbook has five sheets: - Cover: scope of the table and notes on data handling (currency and unit conversions, GHG emission factors, regional benchmarks, source types). - Table 5 Traceability: values in the technology pathway comparison (Table 5), one row per cell. - Table 6 Traceability: values in the country case-study table (Table 6), one row per cell, including the social impact and policy columns and the table footnotes. - Figure 3 Traceability: how each normalised score plotted in Figure 3 was derived from the underlying Table 5 and Table 7 values, with the scoring rule. - Figure 4 Traceability: the financing-share values plotted in Figure 4 and their source. Verification statuses are CONFIRMED where the source was read in full or the value is quoted directly from a published abstract or table, PARTIAL where the value is abstract-level only, a secondary citation, or the source could not be obtained, and NO VALUE FOUND where no traceable value was identified. Parameters marked NO VALUE FOUND are shown as a dash in the manuscript rather than being populated with an estimate, and the row records what was sought and why nothing was found. No primary experimental data were generated. The article is a structured integrative evidence synthesis of published literature, and this dataset is the audit record of that synthesis.

Values are cited as reported in their source publications. Currency conversions: where source papers reported costs in local currencies (INR for India, IDR for Indonesia), values were converted to USD using exchange rates stated in those papers. Unit conversions were applied where needed (e.g. USD/GJ to USD/MWh x3.6; kgCO2-eq/GWh to kgCO2eq/kWh / 1,000). CAPEX for Bolivia was derived from the capital-cost regression equations published in Morato et al. (2020). No purchasing power parity adjustments were applied. GHG emission factors: values are cited as reported in each source paper, using whichever IPCC assessment report those papers applied. No systematic recalculation using IPCC AR6 factors was applied. Regional benchmarks: where no national capital or levelised cost could be traced for a country in IRENA's "rest of the world" grouping (Annex III of IRENA, Renewable Power Generation Costs in 2024), the manuscript reports IRENA's weighted average for bagasse projects in that grouping, marked with footnote (k) in Table 6 as a regional benchmark rather than a national value. The individual rows in the Table 6 sheet record this for each cell. Source types: values are drawn from peer-reviewed articles, major institutional reports (IRENA, IEA, World Bank, national agencies) and, where they are the primary record of national output, industry-association and sector publications (e.g. UNICA, ASAZGUA/ICC, the International Sugar Organization). The source type and the verification status of each value are given in the sheets themselves.
