Effects of varying NPSB fertilizer rates and intra-row spacing on growth and yield carrot (Daucus carota L.)
Description
Carrot growth and yield could be impacted by optimum fertilizer application and plant spacing.The results of the present study indicated that the main effects of blended NPSB fertilizer and intra row spacing highly significantly influenced most of the growth and yield parameters. Furthermore, the interaction effects of both factors on harvest index, branched root, cracked root, marketable yield, unmarketable yield, total root yield, and total soluble solids were significant. Finally the result showed carrot production can be improved by application of both treatments and it is profitable.

Steps to reproduce
Field experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design with three replications, the treatments included factorial combinations of four levels of blended NPSB fertilizer (0 kg, 75 kg, 150 kg, and 225 kg ha-1) and four levels of intra-row spacing (3, 5.5, 8 and 10 cm). Data were collected on phenology, growth, yield components and yield,. The carrot variety Nantes seed was acquired from Haramaya University as the planting material. Soil analysis was done by taking the composite surface soil samples randomly in a zigzag pattern from the experimental location at a depth of 30 cm using an auger. Moreover, partial budget analysis was carried out to estimate the economic profitability. Five plants were chosen randomly from a plot for measuring parameters and SAS Computer Software version 9.3 was applied to run the data analysis
