Description

To analyze the efficacy of using a vaginal gel based on Isoflavones derived from Glycine max (L.) Merr (soy) as a promoter of neovascularization of vaginal tissue, twenty-two postmenopausal women were randomized to use the vaginal gel based on Isoflavones derived from Glycine max (L.) Merr (soy) daily for 12 weeks, or to use Placebo vaginal gel during the same period. Vaginal micro biopsies were collected before and after the 12-week treatment and immunohistochemistry analyses were performed to provide a blood vessel count per field in the vaginal tissue, pre and post-intervention. We found that the Isoflavones group exhibited a significant increase in blood vessels per field relative to baseline, whereas the placebo group showed no difference compared to baseline, and there was a significant difference in the increase of number of blood vessels between the Isoflavone and Placebo Groups.
