Tamil, one of the world's oldest living languages, has thrived for thousands of years, withstanding invasions, reforms, and societal changes. Its remarkable resilience and adaptability have allowed it to preserve its rich literary and heritage and embrace modern trends and technology. This is the 16th century ancient Tamil-Vatteluthu dataset. The characters are extracted from palm leaves of "Thiruvilayadal puranam" by paramjothi munivar. Extracting individual characters is done using the bounding box method. Then, Otsu's threshold method is applied to remove the background. Segmented images are enhanced and enlarged by deep learning model.
