Original Image Dataset – Close-up Images of Martian Analogue Rocks
Description
This dataset contains original images of Martian analogue rocks, which were analysed in the publication “Close-up Imaging of Oxia Planum Analogue Samples Under Different Illumination Conditions: Preparing for the ExoMars Rover Mission” by Ligeza et al., 2025 (https://doi.org/10.3389/fspas.2025.1530408). The purpose of this dataset is to make the original high-resolution images publicly available for further analysis, e.g., image processing or image analysis. It consists of the following documents: • A – Image Acquisition Procedure: Explains the process for replicating the image dataset with the same or similar analogue rocks. It includes the steps to recreate the analogue lighting conditions on Mars, representing midday, morning/evening, and diffused light (e.g., during the dust storm season), as well as the image acquisition parameters used for the CLUPI analogue camera (Canon EOS M50). • B – Samples Summary: Contains image IDs and specifications. It also includes folders with the images, grouped as follows: 1. Clastic sedimentary rocks 2. Rocks with Fe-Mg phyllosilicates 3. Igneous rocks 4. Evaporites, carbonates, and morphological biosignatures 5. Rocks with various morphological features For additional information, please contact: gabriela.ligeza@unibas.ch or nikolaus.kuhn@unibas.ch
