Description

This dataset contains individual-level and descriptive summary data from an experimental study investigating the effects of Calliandra portoricensis root bark ethanol extract (CPRBEE) on carbon tetrachloride (CCl₄)-induced neurotoxicity in male Wistar rats. The repository-ready workbook contains four sheets: Raw_Long_n5, Data_Dictionary, Summary_n5 and README. The Raw_Long_n5 sheet contains 1,015 individual endpoint-level observations representing 29 endpoints across seven experimental groups, with five observations per endpoint per group. The measured variables cover oxidative-stress and antioxidant biomarkers (MDA, SOD, CAT, GPx and GSH), acetylcholinesterase activity, neuronal and glial injury biomarkers (NSE and GFAP), inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6 and IL-10), trace elements (Fe, Cu, Zn and Mg), Nrf2/HO-1/NF-κB and BDNF-related measurements, and behavioral outcomes from the elevated plus maze, Y-maze and open-field test. The Summary_n5 sheet contains group-level N, mean, standard deviation and standard error of the mean calculated from the five supplied observations per group. The Data_Dictionary sheet defines the variables and their recorded units. Phytochemical screening data, GC-MS chromatographic and compound-identification outputs, histopathology images and lesion-score records are not included in the current workbook. The primary research manuscript contains inconsistent sample-size statements; the current repository dataset contains five observations per group, and no observations have been imputed or generated to increase the sample size. The dataset is intended to support transparent inspection, reproducibility, secondary analysis and reuse of the deposited experimental measurements.

Steps to reproduce

Male Wistar rats were assigned to seven experimental groups corresponding to the control, CCl₄-exposed, vitamin C-treated and CPRBEE-treated groups described in the associated research study. CCl₄ exposure and treatment were conducted according to the experimental protocol reported in the related research article. Behavioral assessments included the elevated plus maze, Y-maze and open-field test. Brain tissue measurements included oxidative-stress and antioxidant biomarkers, acetylcholinesterase activity, neuronal and glial injury biomarkers, inflammatory cytokines, trace elements, Nrf2/HO-1/NF-κB-related measurements and BDNF. The Raw_Long_n5 sheet provides the individual observations used to generate the descriptive group summaries in Summary_n5. Mean, standard deviation and standard error of the mean can be independently recalculated from the individual observations. No observations were imputed or simulated.
