PresenteeismVoiceComplaintsAutonomicModulation
Description
This dataset characterises presenteeism, voice complaints, and autonomic modulation in 47 university teachers from public and private higher-education institutions in Brazil. It integrates, for each participant, sociodemographic and occupational information, self-reported health and sleep variables, presenteeism, voice-related quality of life, subjective voice complaints, and heart rate variability (HRV), all linked across worksheets by an anonymous participant identifier (P01-P47). Presenteeism was assessed with the Stanford Presenteeism Scale (SPS-6), completed by 33 of the 47 participants. Voice-related quality of life was measured with the Voice-Related Quality of Life questionnaire (V-RQOL/QVV, Brazilian version), reported as physical, socio-emotional, and total domain scores on the standard 0-100 scale (100 = best). Subjective voice assessment covers self-reported vocal symptoms, vocal effort, and voice use. Autonomic modulation was recorded with an emWave Pro photoplethysmographic (PPG) sensor (HeartMath) sampling the pulse wave at 370 Hz. Because the signal is optical, the intervals are pulse-to-pulse (inter-beat) intervals and the derived measures correspond to pulse rate variability, reported using conventional HRV terminology. HRV indices were computed with Kubios HRV Scientific Lite 4.3.0 using a single documented configuration applied to all participants (threshold-based beat correction, smoothness-priors detrending, 4 Hz interpolation, FFT/Welch spectrum, bands VLF 0-0.04, LF 0.04-0.15, HF 0.15-0.40 Hz). The exact configuration is included. Indices cover time-domain (SDNN, RMSSD, pNN50), frequency-domain (LF, HF, LF/HF, absolute and normalised units), non-linear (Poincare SD1/SD2, approximate and sample entropy, DFA), and autonomic (PNS, SNS, stress) measures. The dataset also provides the raw inter-beat interval series for all 47 participants (both wide and long/tidy formats), a per-recording quality-control summary, and a complete data dictionary. For transparency, the same indices recomputed with the open-source NeuroKit2 library are included as a reference for an inter-software comparison; the Kubios values are the primary ones. Data are provided as an Excel workbook and as open UTF-8 CSV files, together with the Kubios configuration, the reproducibility code, and the original Kubios exports. The dataset may be reused in occupational health, voice science, psychophysiology, education, and ergonomics. The sample is a convenience sample from a limited number of institutions and is not representative of the broader teacher population; the data are exploratory and intended for methodological analysis and hypothesis generation rather than prevalence estimation. All participants provided written informed consent, and the study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the University of Sao Paulo.
