Primary Survey Data on Financial Literacy Among High School Students in Karaikal, Puducherry

Description

This dataset contains primary survey data collected from high school students (grades 8, 9, and 10) in public schools in Karaikal, Union Territory of Puducherry, India. The data was gathered to assess levels of financial literacy among students and examine the influence of personal, family, and demographic factors on financial knowledge and behaviour. The dataset includes responses on: (1) personal and demographic details (sex, grade, parental education and occupation, number of siblings); (2) personal financial status, including pocket money, spending habits, and awareness of financial instruments; (3) family financial status, including investment in gold/silver, chit funds, property, insurance coverage, and vehicle ownership; and (4) general financial literacy indicators (15 survey items, V1–V15) covering saving behaviour, financial discipline, digital financial practices, and decision-making autonomy. Data was collected through structured questionnaires administered in person, with responses recorded on a categorical/ordinal scale. This dataset supports the statistical analyses (percentage analysis, mean ranking, and Mann–Whitney U test) reported in the associated manuscript, "Analysing Financial Dimensions through the High School Students in Karaikal under the UT of Puducherry."
