Description

We conducted a random-effects meta-analysis of 25 open-label and randomized controlled trials to provide an up-to-date assessment of DBS efficacy in TRD. Depressive symptoms improved across short-term (6–9 months), moderate-term (12–24 months), and long-term (>24 months) time points after DBS initiation, with standardized mean change effect sizes (SMCR) of 2.77, 3.15, and 3.87, respectively.

Steps to reproduce

Two independant reviewers used Covidence software to screen articles based on inclusion criteria. To prevent inclusion of duplicated participant populations, studies were systematically screened for overlapping samples. Clinical trial registration numbers, author groups, recruitment dates, and study institutions were cross-referenced. All studies were entered into an Excel tracking matrix, grouping by geographical region, study institution and trial registry number to identify potential overlap. In cases where studies were determined or suspected to share participants, the report with the most complete and relevant dataset was retained, and overlapping reports were excluded.
