Systems-Based Diagnosis of Faculty Research Productivity

The study proposed that faculty research productivity is influenced by interconnected institutional factors, including people, processes, resources, leadership, skills, collaboration, and research-to-impact mechanisms. Secondary institutional data on faculty research engagement, completed research outputs, and recognized publications were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, and Fishbone-based systems analysis. The data showed that 11 of 30 faculty members (36.67%) were research-engaged, while 19 (63.33%) were not recorded as research-engaged. A total of 920 research outputs were completed in 2024. Within the specified dataset of 243 outputs, 51 (20.99%) were published in internationally refereed or CHED-recognized journals, while 192 (79.01%) were not recorded in that category. These findings indicate gaps in faculty research participation and research-to-publication conversion. The findings demonstrate institutional patterns but do not establish causality. They support the need for systems-based interventions addressing mentoring, research skills, publication processes, resources, leadership, collaboration, and research impact.
