This dataset includes the online appendix, original data, and Stata do-file to replicate all figures and tables in the paper titled "Poetry and Distant Places: How Tang and Song Literature Shapes China's Modern Tourism Economy." VERSION NOTES (v2): - main.do has been revised: all local path macros replaced with global macros ($raw, $intm, $tabs, $figs) to ensure cross-platform reproducibility across operating systems; some first-stage results and IV test statistics produced directly. - All output filenames and results are unchanged from v1. - A log file (output/main_run.log) from a verified successful run is now included. - README.md updated with full output-to-manuscript mapping. CONTENTS: - main.do : Master script; runs all analyses end-to-end - data/raw/ : Raw data files - data/intermediate/ : Intermediate datasets produced during analysis - output/tables/ : All regression tables (.doc / .docx) - output/figures/ : All code-generated figures (.pdf / .gph) - output/main_run.log : Log file from a verified successful run - README.md : Full documentation including software requirements, variable descriptions, and output-to-manuscript mapping SOFTWARE: Stata 17 (or later). Steps to reproduce
1. Download the replication package (.zip) and unzip it to a local folder. 2. Open README.md and review the software requirements and folder structure. 3. Install all required Stata packages listed in README.md Section 3. 4. Open main.do in Stata and update the cd path to match your local folder location. 5. Run main.do from start to finish. All tables will be saved to output/tables/ and all figures to output/figures/. 6. Compare outputs against the included log file (output/main_run.log) to verify successful replication.
