Four separate data files from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID)—Family (FAM), Child Adoption History (CAH), Sibling Map (FIMS), and Children Development Supplement (CDS)—were utilized in this analysis. Specifically, the first three waves of CDS data (1997, 2002, and 2007) were extracted and restricted to include only those children whose primary caregivers (PCGs) were either the biological mother who is also the household head or the wife of the household head. Subsequently, the identifiers of children and their PCGs from the CDS were matched with those in the family-level and childbirth adoption history files to retrieve comprehensive maternal and family characteristics. The sibling map (FIMS) was employed to obtain sibling-specific data. Finally, all matched and merged information was consolidated to create the final dataset for analysis.
