Votare Altrimenti 2022
Description
"Votare Altrimenti" is the Italian extension of the French project "Voter Autrement", a long-established empirical tradition in France testing voter behavior under, and voter satisfaction with, alternative voting methods. This repository contains individual-level survey data from an online pre-election survey conducted immediately before the 2022 Italian general election. The sample contains 1,021 respondents aged 18 years or older and is constructed to be nationally representative with respect to region of residence, age, and gender. The survey records political and electoral attitudes, votes cast under approval, ranked, score, and evaluative voting, voting intention under the existing electoral system, satisfaction with voting methods, preferences concerning electoral reform, sociodemographic characteristics, and optional open-ended feedback. Respondents were randomly assigned to qualitative or neutral labels for the evaluative-voting task. The repository contains both the original Italian materials and English translations to facilitate international reuse while preserving the original survey implementation. Researchers interested in reproducing the survey interface can import the .lss file into LimeSurvey or consult the screenshot walkthrough. Files: - "CITATION.cff": machine-readable citation metadata for the dataset. - "Codebook.xlsx": dataset overview, complete English and Italian variable dictionaries, and weighting information. - "Dataset - 2022 Italian Survey.sav": original Italian SPSS dataset preserving the questionnaire wording and complete metadata. - "Dataset [Translated_in_English] - 2022 Italian Survey.csv": analysis-ready English dataset in CSV format, including the post-stratification weight variables (weight_education and weight_vote). - "Dataset [Translated_in_English] - 2022 Italian Survey.sav": English SPSS dataset with translated variable labels and embedded value labels. - "IdeologicallyBiasedPaper.R": R script reproducing the analyses reported in the related publication. - "README.md": documentation describing the study, repository organization, weighting procedures, and instructions for using the dataset. - "Votare altrimenti 2022 (walkthrough).pdf": screenshot-based walkthrough of the original Italian LimeSurvey questionnaire preserving its visual layout. - "Weights.R": standalone R script for constructing the post-stratification weight variables included in the English CSV dataset. - "limesurvey_survey_458856.lss": original LimeSurvey survey structure.
