Description

A database gives photo-recordings of laboratory experiments of deepening of individual volumes with negative buoyancy in freshwater environment. The images in database show: a general view of the hydroflume (1 Hydroflume.jpg), made of plexiglass, with fixed mesh (2×2 cm) on the back wall and mounted centimeter ruler on the bottom of the hydroflume; special input device (folder 2-Special-device). The average water temperature in the hydroflume was 14°C. The range of density difference between the fresh water in the hydroflume and the individual volume with negative buoyancy (with salt and dye) was 10^-4 g/cm^3–2*10^-4 g/cm^3. The value of the negative buoyancy volume was 2–3 ml, and an additional 0.5 or 1 ml was used to initialize the special input device. Two modes were used to record the process of deepening of individual volumes: on a Baumer high-speed video camera with a frequency of 10Hz (400 frames), and also on a Sony-58α digital camera with a frame rate of 1.78 Hz (the number of frames was not fixed). Default Baumer camera settings: exp.time 4000 µ/sec, gain 1 db. The first file [1 Hydroflume.jpg] shows a general view of a hydroflume filled with fresh water, dimensions (W×H×D, 800×600×125 mm). The folder [2-Special-device] contains images of a general view of the special input device (a), which we have named "funnel", and schematic diagram (front view) of the device. Images of the top view, bottom view and side view of the input device are presented. The special device might consist three outlets (“funnels”), filled with sand or stones. In case of burst mode on Sony-58α camera, folders with the name [3-#-Experiment <YY-MM-DD>] might contain sub-folders with the images of the continuous shooting of a deepening of individual volumes with negative buoyancy in freshwater environment. Name of the folder with the images of the continuous shooting have the following template: the serial number (1-ser) of the experiment; the position of the input device relative to the center of the hydroflume and the content of the “funnel” (L-sand); the serial number of the “funnel” (one, two or three, from left to right); shooting mode (low or high); color of the dye in the volume (blue or violet). In case of the continuous shooting on Baumer camera, the sub-folders might contain the next view of name [VCXU-23M_700002922390_<date>-<#>], where: “VCXU-23M_700002922390_” is default name and serial number of the camera, “date” means the day the experiment was performed (YY-MM-DD), ”#” – random system number. The central input device was recorded using only Baumer camera. The file [4-Estimates-of-rate] is a summary table, containing some of the results of the estimated deepening rates of individual volumes with negative buoyancy in a freshwater environment. This file is also presented in PDF format. The folder [5-Pictures] contains preliminary plots for estimating of the deepening rates of individual volumes with negative buoyancy in a freshwater environment [3].
