SLC30A8 rs13266634 (C>T) Non-synonymous Polymorphism in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Description
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a complex polygenic disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia. Several genetic association studies have explored the relationship between the non-synonymous variant rs13266634 (C>T) in the SLC30A8 gene (HGNC:20303) and T2DM susceptibility, with conflicting findings. This study aimed to investigate the role of the rs13266634 polymorphism in SLC30A8 among T2DM patients in the Bangladeshi population. A case-control study was conducted, recruiting 90 diagnosed T2DM patients from a diabetic cohort and 90 gender-matched healthy non-diabetic controls. Various clinico-demographic variables and biochemical analytes including blood glucose level and serum lipid profiles were assessed. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood samples, and the rs13266634 variant was genotyped by Sanger sequencing following PCR amplification.
