Description

The main equipment used consisted of a reactor made of Pyrex glass, a microwave oven, and a distillation column with a bubble-cap tray. Initially, 150 g of coal of a certain particle size was prepared: promoter and catalyst with a certain ratio. Operating conditions at atmospheric pressure with operating variables as follows: reaction temperature between 570-650℃ (increase 10℃); microwave input power is 0 - 800 W (increase by 75 W); pyrolysis time 15-135 minutes (increase every 15 minutes). The coal particle sizes are 4, 16, 40, 80, 100, 150, and 200 mesh. The liquid fuel obtained is weighed and characterization is carried out.

Steps to reproduce

The yield of liquid product is determined from the total mass of the liquid obtained divided by the mass of the feed multiplied by 100%. Meanwhile, the char yield is the mass of char divided by the mass of the feed multiplied by 100%. Proximate analysis performed using the ASTM D3172-D3175 method. SEM is used to obtain the micromorphology of raw coal and char. XRD analysis (PANanalytical’s MiniPal 4) on the crystal structure of coal and char. FTIR spectrometer (Shimadzu, IRPrestige-21) was used to analyze the organic functional groups of liquid fuel. GC-MS was used to analyze the components of liquid fuel and gas.
