Self-harm among hospitalized adolescent girls. А cross-sectional study with prospective data collection.
Description
In this observational study on non-suicidal self-injurious behavior (NSSI) in adolescent girls, data on the age and diagnostic characteristics of female patients in a specialized psychiatric hospital, as well as their socio-demographic, clinical and psychopathological features were collected and analyzed. A specially developed statistical map was used to collect information. The study covered the period from 09/01/2022 to 09/01/2024. The study group consisted of girls aged 12–17 years who had recorded episodes of NSSI corresponding to criteria B–F of DSM-5. The main reasons for self-harming behavior were emotional regulation and interpersonal conflicts. Criterion A (at least 5 episodes during the year) was not taken into account, which allowed us to include patients with rare cases of NSSI and study its early manifestations. A history of suicide attempts was not a reason for exclusion, but the absence of suicidal intent at the time of self-harm was confirmed during the clinical interview. 2nd version presents the results of the analysis of differences between adolescents aged 12–14 and 15–17 years, as well as between groups formed on the basis of diagnostic categories (F00–F09, F30–F39, F40–F48, F70–F79 and F90–F98), which allows us to identify significant factors associated with NSSI. 3rd version: The results of the psychometric methods used in the study have been added.
