Description

The study used a descriptive design to analyze secondary data to examine the digital divide in education in the Philippines. It uses current data and statistical reports from the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). Descriptive methods were used to examine trends and patterns related to internet access, availability of digital devices, and educational connectivity among Filipino students. Through the analysis of secondary data, the current state of digital inequality and its implications for access to educational opportunities in the Philippines are highlighted.

Steps to reproduce

The data for this study were obtained through a secondary data analysis approach using official and publicly available reports from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and the Department of Education (DepEd). The researcher identified relevant datasets and publications related to household internet access, digital device availability, internet usage, and educational digitalization initiatives covering recent years (2019–2025). Data gathering involved systematic document retrieval from official government websites, followed by careful selection of variables relevant to the digital divide in education. The extracted data were organized in spreadsheets for coding, tabulation, and comparison. Descriptive statistical techniques, including percentages and trend analysis, were applied using basic spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel or equivalent) to interpret changes and patterns in digital access indicators. No primary data collection instruments, laboratory procedures, or experimental reagents were used, as the study relied entirely on verified secondary datasets and policy documents.
