Dataset from a Controlled Study of an Enactive Mind–Body Intervention for Adult Migrant Learners (Salerno, 2024)
Description
This dataset was collected as part of a controlled experimental study examining the effects of an enactive mind–body intervention for adult migrant learners in Salerno, Italy, during the second semester of the 2023/2024 school year. The study compared an experimental group, which attended the enactive mind–body intervention, with a control group receiving regular English classes. Outcomes included English language proficiency (CEFR A2), perceived stress, and global distress. Participants were randomly assigned to the two groups using an online randomization tool (randomizer.org). The control group continued standard English lessons, while the experimental group completed a five‑session intervention integrating enactive and contemplative practices, collaborative multimedia creation, and digital learning tools. Pre‑ and post‑intervention assessments were administered digitally. Instruments included the Macmillan Gateway2 Diagnostic Test – A2 (English proficiency), the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and the CORE‑10 (psychological distress). All data were fully anonymized prior to archiving.

Steps to reproduce
- Recruit participants enrolled in an Adult Education Centre offering English courses to adult migrants. - Randomly assign participants to an experimental group and a control group using any online randomization tool (e.g., randomizer.org). - Deliver the interventions: - Control group: continue regular English classes following the centre’s standard curriculum. - Experimental group: implement a five‑session enactive mind–body intervention integrating embodied activities, collaborative multimedia creation, digital tools, and a mind–body practice. - Administer pre‑intervention assessments digitally to all participants using: - Macmillan Gateway2 Diagnostic Test – A2 (English proficiency) - Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) - CORE‑10 (global psychological distress) - Conduct the five‑session intervention over the designated instructional period, ensuring both groups receive equivalent total instructional time. - Administer post‑intervention assessments using the same digital instruments and procedures as the pre‑test. - Export all assessment data, ensuring consistent formatting across participants. - Anonymize the dataset by removing names, emails, IP addresses, and any identifying metadata. - Archive the anonymized dataset in CSV or spreadsheet format along with documentation describing variables and scoring.
