Description

This dataset contains the raw and processed data supporting the manuscript titled “Elephant Grass-Derived Carbon Dots as Growth-Compatible Nano-Bioelicitors That Selectively Remodel the Extracellular Metabolome of Bacillus velezensis GMEKP1”, in preparation for submission to 3 Biotech. Data include: (1) TEM particle size distribution raw counts, (2) XRD and Raman spectral data, (3) XPS survey/wide-scan spectrum and high-resolution deconvolution fitting parameters (C 1s, O 1s, and N 1s), (4) FTIR spectral data, (5) UV-Vis and photoluminescence spectra, (6) bacterial growth curve (OD600) raw measurements, (7) confocal microscopy Z-stack image data showing the association of carbon dots with Bacillus velezensis GMEKP1 cells, and (8) LC-HRMS peak-intensity matrices acquired in positive and negative electrospray ionization modes, including the data used for multivariate and heatmap analyses, along with the corresponding total ion chromatograms.

Steps to reproduce

1. Carbon dots (CDs) were synthesized from elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum) biomass. 2. We characterised the CDs' physicochemical properties using TEM, XRD, Raman, XPS, FTIR, UV-Vis absorption, and photoluminescence spectroscopy. 3. CDs were added as a nano-elicitor to the fermentation medium of Bacillus velezensis GMEKP1 (Treatment group), compared with a Control group without CDs. 4. We monitored bacterial growth by measuring OD600 throughout the incubation period. 5. Confocal microscopy (Z-stack imaging) was used to visualise the association of CDs with B. velezensis GMEKP1 cells. 6. We obtained extracts from the fermentation medium after the incubation period. 7. We analysed the extracts by untargeted LC-HRMS metabolomics (positive and negative ESI modes) to profile the extracellular metabolome.
