Description
This dataset was used to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of reported dengue cases in the Magdalena department of Colombia during the year 2022. The primary research hypothesis was that dengue case outcomes—such as hospitalization—may be associated with seasonal patterns (rainy season) and other epidemiological variables. The dataset also aimed to explore statistically significant associations between reported cases, their clinical outcomes, and environmental or temporal factors. The dataset includes anonymized patient records related to dengue cases, and only cases with complete records for the relevant variables of interest were included in the analysis. The information collected includes demographic variables, clinical outcomes (hospitalization), and the time of year the case occurred, allowing comparison between cases reported during the rainy season and those reported outside of it.

Steps to reproduce
The data was obtained from the microdata search tool of the SIVIGILA platform, managed by the Colombian National Institute of Health (INS). Reported dengue cases from the Magdalena department for the year 2022 were filtered. Only cases with complete data for variables of interest (e.g., clinical outcome, date of onset, demographics) were included. Descriptive statistics and hypothesis testing (e.g., chi-square tests) were conducted using the free software Jamovi v. 2.3.28.0. Analyses focused on identifying associations between hospitalization rates and seasonality, among other factors.
