Using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, we characterised seasonal changes in bacterial community composition and diversity and evaluated the extent of colony-specific variability. This longitudinal approach provides new insights into the relative contributions of seasonal and colony-specific factors to the temporal dynamics of the honey bee gut microbiota.
