On the first wave of COVID-19 in Italy: excess mortality, transit usage, and commuting flows

Description

The following dataset reports daily excess mortality recorded in each Italian local labour market over the period 1 January and 30 June 2020, compared to the corresponding 2015-2019 average, as released by the National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT). In addition, it includes pre-existing levels of public transport usage and the intensity of internal and external commuting flows, as reported by the last (2011) census data. Finally, a set of geographic, demographic, and economic characteristics of local labour markets are also included.
