Reproducibility package for “Spatial rainfall simplification affects bulk and local urban pluvial flood responses differently”
Description
This repository contains the derived data, analysis outputs, and reproducibility code supporting the manuscript “Spatial rainfall simplification affects bulk and local urban pluvial flood responses differently”. The study evaluates how spatial simplification of rainfall forcing affects integrated and local urban pluvial-flood responses in Yinchuan, northwestern China. Hourly rainfall observations from five gauges during 2015–2025 were used to identify 993 quality-controlled rainfall events. A response-blind sampling procedure selected 35 events for formal hydrodynamic simulations using SFINCS, of which 10 events with non-empty model-consistent threshold-exceedance footprints were used for detailed spatial comparisons and paired rainfall counterfactual experiments. The repository includes event registries, rainfall-forcing descriptors, modelled response metrics, event-held-out statistical-model evaluation results, paired PRIMARY and SECONDARY rainfall-counterfactual results, numerical quality-control diagnostics, and supporting data used to reproduce the tables and figures reported in the manuscript and supplement. The PRIMARY counterfactual preserves the hourly urban-mean hyetograph and urban rainfall volume while removing within-city rainfall gradients, whereas the SECONDARY counterfactual preserves rainfall over the full active model domain. The original hourly precipitation observations are not redistributed in this repository because they were obtained from the China Meteorological Data Service Centre and are subject to the provider’s access and redistribution conditions. Only derived and shareable data required to reproduce the reported analyses are included.
